Known locally as the ‘umbrella pulldown market,’ this extraordinary market stretches along an active railway line. Established in the early 1900s, it has grown up around the tracks, selling fresh produce, seafood, and local goods. Several times a day, the distant sound of a train sends vendors into action, folding back awnings and pulling their wares away from the rails, only to set them back in place moments after the train passes. Witnessing this precise, practiced scramble is a fascinating glimpse into local life and a truly unforgettable sight.
Next, we travel to the famous Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Dug in the 19th century during the reign of King Rama IV to improve trade and transport, the network of narrow canals is now filled with boats carrying fresh fruits, local snacks, and handcrafted goods. The riverbanks bustle with colorful stalls, creating a lively atmosphere where you can enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of a traditional floating market. While it has become a popular tourist attraction, it remains one of the best places to experience this unique way of trading.
Finally, we visit Wat Bang Kung, one of Amphawa District’s most iconic temples. This remarkable site is almost completely enveloped by the roots and branches of a giant banyan tree, which have grown over the centuries to lock the building in a natural embrace. Inside, you’ll find a golden Buddha, a serene reminder of the temple’s spiritual significance and enduring charm.

Great experience and must do in Bangkok
Great to experience the floating market and train market – lots to see and buy, if you want souvenirs, and plenty of places to stop for a drink or snack. The traffic in and out of Bangkok is heavy – be prepared for 1.5-2 hours journey each way.

Full day at markets
The floating market is a lovely experience. And really glad we were placed in a rowing boat rather than the engine ones that make alot of noise and puff out smoke at the back.
Unfortunately the content provided was pretty basic eg. No historical information about why the floating market or the railway market are traditional.
And the travel by bus was 2hours+ there and back due to traffic today (a Buddhist holiday) so that did also impact the trip.
In any case thank you, we appreciate the experience and kindness of the staff as always.

I had a wonderful trip with an amazing guide called Ngoc. She really made us feel special and showed us around everywhere. Can highly recommend the tour if you’re interested in seeing several spots in very short time!

Great trip, really interesting
Really good trip, hassle free pickup and drop off at our hotel, Wham the guide was really knowledgeable and we had some great view points of the train coming through the market.
Although it said water was included, we didn’t see it .. buying drinks between boat to boat in the floating market was fun!

Floating and train market
These tour was great! I got lucky and got Wan again as my tour guide she is so knowledgeable, patient and helpful with everyone. The tour was quite an experience well worth the price don’t hesitate!
