Ayutthaya Historical City – Full Day Tour

Set off on a journey to Ayutthaya Historical Park and explore ancient buddhas and some of the country's most beautiful temple ruins.
During this Ayutthaya full day tour you will explore the former capital of Siam with an English speaking tour guide.
A journey back in time to Ayutthaya, nowadays a UNESCO World Heritage site, gives you a good impression how glorious and prosperous this ancient city once was!

During this full day excursion to the former capital of Siam we will visit the following places:

• Bang Pa-In, 20 km south of the ancient capital, the Summer Palace used by King Chulalongkorn, Rama V, to retreat. He admired European architecture and the buildings are a mix of European and Oriental architectural styles.
• Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, a beautiful temple off the historical island. Highlights are its 60 meter tall bell shaped chedi and a Reclining Buddha.
• Wat Mahathat, which was one of Ayutthaya's most important temples. This temple is well-known because of the famous Buddha head entwined in the roots of an old Banyan tree.
• Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the royal temple of Ayutthaya where the most important ceremonies were held.
• Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit where the main feature is the large bronze (gilded) Buddha image, named Phra Mongkhon Bophit.
• Wat Chaiwatthanaram, one of Ayutthaya's most impressive temples, was built following the concepts of the Khmer temples of Angkor to symbolize the universe in Buddhist and Hindu cosmology.

Although Ayutthaya was almost completely burnt down by the Burmese army in 1767, the remains, however, give a good idea of how beautiful this city must have been.

Finally, we return to Bangkok.

Note

Bang Pa-In is a Royal Palace and visitors must dress appropriately. Shoulders and ankles need to be covered (for both women as men). No shorts, slippers, ripped-off jeans, leggings, tight clothes or revealing tops, otherwise you won't be allowed in.
