Step into Thailand’s royal history on a guided tour of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, two of Bangkok’s most important cultural landmarks. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, explore magnificent palace grounds, admire intricate Thai architecture, and discover the stories behind the country’s royal traditions and Buddhist heritage.
Begin at the Grand Palace, built in 1782 by King Rama I when Bangkok became the new capital of Siam. For more than 150 years, this impressive complex served as the official royal residence and remains an important venue for royal ceremonies and state occasions. As you walk through its ornate halls, gilded spires, and beautifully decorated buildings, learn how the palace reflects Thailand’s history, craftsmanship, and royal legacy.
Continue to Wat Phra Kaew, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, located within the Grand Palace complex. This sacred temple houses the Emerald Buddha, a revered national treasure carved from a single piece of green jade. Discover the statue’s fascinating journey through the historic kingdoms of Thailand and Laos before its return to Bangkok in the late 18th century.
Your guide will also explain the significance of the Emerald Buddha’s seasonal robes, which are changed by the King during three traditional ceremonies each year. Along the way, gain a deeper understanding of Thai Buddhism, royal customs, and the history of Bangkok’s development into Thailand’s capital.
This two-hour walking tour offers an engaging introduction to the country’s royal heritage and spiritual traditions.
