Lopburi Monkey Temple & Ayutthaya Old City Tour From Bangkok
Bangkok
+5
In the morning we leave Bangkok for our day trip to the ancient capital Ayutthaya and Lopburi.
Ayutthaya, a kingdom that existed from 1350 to 1767, is a fantastic destination for culture lovers. During these four centuries, the country grew into the nation of Siam (the former name of Thailand), which roughly occupied the territory of modern Thailand, with the exception of the Lanna kingdom in northern Thailand.
The kingdom came to its final end in 1767, when the Burmese army invaded the country, burnt Ayutthaya to the ground and forced the inhabitants to abandon the city.
Since 1991, Ayutthaya has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its impressive ruins take you back to the glory days of the ancient kingdom.
Lopburi is one of Thailand’s oldest cities, being inhabited continuously since the Dvaravati era, that started 15 centuries ago. During the 10th century Lopburi became part of the Khmer empire that was expanding towards the West. The Khmers built a number of impressive monuments, many of which still exist today.
Later the city came under the influence of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, that was founded around the middle of the 14th century. During the reign of King Narai the Great in the second half of the 17th century, Lopburi was made the second capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.
During this full day excursion we will visit some historical temples in Ayutthaya and afterwards continue to Lopburi, to visit the famous monkey-temple.
For join tours we only pick up from a few selected areas in Bangkok.
If clients stay outside our regular pick up area, they have to come to our office in Chao Khamrop Road, Chinatown.

Totally Unique and Authentic”
This is beyond our expectation! We got lucky that there were only us in the group, so it’s kinda private. We went on Monday, so not so crowded. The highlight is the “monkey shepherd-ing”, if you will. It’s such a unique experience, i don’t think you can find anywhere else. And our guide, Piya, is the best. He knows every details! God bless him! 50 bucks per person for this whole day experience is totally worth it. I also argue both Western and Eastern travelers would love this tour! Just watch out for the heat 😉
