Damnoen Saduak Floating Market & Railway Market
Bangkok

Take in the local sights and sounds at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Experienced long-tail boats , appreciate the winding waterways and get a brief glimpse of those who live on the river. Then see vendors scramble as the train rushes by the Maeklong Railway Market.
Maeklong Railway Market, which roughly means ‘umbrella pulldown market’, it is famous for the vendors’ mad scramble to pack up when a train goes by. We’ll explore and hopefully see the train pass before making our way to our next stop the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. One of the more famous floating markets in the city, it is made up of a network of narrow canals dotted with vendors paddling their boats filled with their wares.
Visit Wat Bang Kung – Temple hidden within the roots of a banyan tree.
This temple is probably the most iconic in Amphawa District, known for its roots and branches of banyan tree which over the centuries have surrounded and locked the building, it houses a golden Buddha.

Touristy but a good half fall day out
We were picked up at our hotel as organised and taken to a service station en route as the joinery was about 2 hours each way. We were dropped at a small railway station to catch the train and managed (just!) to get a seat. The journey was on a local train so doesn’t have air con but the breeze is just enough. The markets were fascinating but SOOOO busy it was impossible to get a decent photo. We had enough time for a look round but it was mainly fresh food or tat really.
We then went to the floating markets. This was again fascinating – slightly less busy too. The food here was great and it was nice to float round and see the stands. It’s all a bit samey with the merchandise on offer but enough to get some gifts. Long journey back in rush hour traffic but water on board.

Fun sunny day tour
We did have a wonderful time during the tour and glad I booked this and enjoy the day. Kis is nice and kind in showing us around the area. He is a good tour guide.

A great day!
A great day with a variety of things to see and do! It took the stress away from doing these three things yourself. And Kis was super friendly and informative!

Bangkok markets tour
Met the tour guide at local office and escorted on foot a short distance to minibus. Thoroughly enjoyed the rail market as it had been organised for us to see train travel through the market. About 1 hour at site was more than adequate. Moved onto tree temple. Really interesting and very photogenic. Then to the coconut farm, which included demos with free samples. Comfort break also available at this site.
Most disappointing aspect of tour was the floating market. Visited this 36 years ago and it has been totally spoilt by over commercialisation. Albeit some boats are paddled most have massive engines which are noisy and polluting. There are far more tourist boats in comparison with local trading boats. The authenticity of the place has been lost.
